The Denver Park Trust partnered with the Cornerstone Skate Foundation to create a skateboarding community through three pop-up learn to skate clinics in an area of Southeast Denver where youth do not have access to skateparks or skate equipment.
The clinics were held on April 29 and May 6, 2023 at Rosamond Park and led by qualified instructors from Cornerstone. Students from three nearby elementary schools—Samuels, Holm, and Shoemaker—will be invited to participate. Sixty-nine percent or more of the students at these schools qualify for free or reduced lunch, an indicator of family income.
The clinics were free and each participant was given a skateboard to take home at the end of the clinic. A total of 37 youth were served.
In May, 2022 the Denver Park Trust awarded a $5,000 Community Grant for this project.
