Montbello Community Paints Denver’s First “Play Path”
A walking trail that winds through Elmendorf Park and John H. Amesse Elementary School (JHAE) in Denver’s Montbello neighborhood will soon be the site of Denver’s first-ever “Play Path.”
Martinez Park Design Plans Unveiled
On Saturday, July 27, Villa Park Neighborhood Association, Denver Parks & Recreation, and Livable Cities Studio shared plans for the design for Phase 1 revitalization of the park. With construction slated to begin this fall, Phase 1 will include a new playground, a community gathering space and pavilion, and the Private Martinez Plaza as the entryway to the park.

Birthday Celebration at Martinez Park
July 27, 2022: The Villa Park Neighborhood Association and nearly 150 residents celebrated Private Joseph P. Martinez’s birthday. Private Martinez was the first Latino and Coloradan to receive the Medal of Honor in World War II, and his birthday was celebrated by the community in his namesake park. If he were alive today, Private Martinez would be 102 years old.
