The Lavender Hill Cultural District is an organization that works to create a beautiful environment with a rich sense of place that highlights the importance and contributions of queer people to Denver. The District showcases, supports, and further uplifts Denver’s already vibrant Queer community, queer businesses, and queer stories.
In partnership with the Denver Park Trust and Denver Parks and Recreation, the District created a new temporary art exhibit at Quality Hill Park in Capitol Hill. The project highlights the rich history of the Denver Queer community’s presence in Capitol Hill while promoting storytelling and appreciation for queer culture within our public spaces. In a series of eleven panels with images and text, the exhibit outlines the history of Queer Capitol Hill from the 1800s through today, as well as highlights upcoming changes to the park as part of the City’s Reimagine Cap Hill Parks project.
Marking the beginning of Pride Month, the exhibit was unveiled on June 1st and will remain in the park for several months.
